- Grants Inspire Youth to Pursue Health Care Careers
April 28, 2009 -- Five rural North Dakota hospitals and clinics in partnership with their local K–12 schools will use grant awards to create student awareness, interest and understanding of health careers.
- Nelson County Health System Will Coordinate HRSA Grant
April 22, 2009 -- The Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) announced this week that Nelson County Health System, McVille, N.D., has received an $85,000 one-year planning grant to strengthen the North Dakota Quality network for critical access hospitals (CAHs) across the state.
- Altru’s Hospice in Cavalier and Faith in Action Honored as Outstanding Rural Health Program
April 20, 2009 -- Altru Hospice of Cavalier in partnership with Faith in Action received the 2009 Outstanding Rural Health Program Award.
- New Eastern ND Health Education Center Will Boost Health Workforce
March 23, 2009 -- Dr. Bill Krivarchka and Katie Anderson will lead the new Eastern North Dakota Area Health Education Center (AHEC). Located in Mayville, ND’s eastern AHEC is designed to increase health workforce by connecting schools, medical facilities and communities.

- Devils Lake: Job Shadowing and Practical Experience
The Towner County Medical Center/Devils Lake Clinic collaborated with the Lake Area Career & Technical Center to allow students to shadow employees of the Devils Lake Community Clinic. After proper training, these students were allowed to take vital signs on patients. This partnership allowed the Health Careers instructor to purchase new equipment, such as stethoscopes, tympanic thermometers, and blood glucose testing supplies to train current and future students of this class.
- Dickinson: Medical Explorers
St. Joseph’s Hospital & Health Center, Dickinson High School, and the Roughrider Area Career and Technology Center joined together to facilitate a medical explorers trip to the eastern part of North Dakota. The students of Dickinson High School and the Roughrider Area Career and Technology Center were exposed to local health care facilities in the western part of the state, but they desired additional educational and practical applications available in North Dakota.
- Park River: Inspector Wellness
First Care Health Center connected with three western Walsh County schools to educate 5th- and 6th-grade students on many medical careers. Walsh County students learned about medical careers; participated in hands-on medical tests, procedures and activities; and solved the mystery of the “Case of the Many Medical Careers II.” Students were allowed to establish acquaintances with successful professionals and build relationships with positive role models in the area.

Presented by the UND School of Medicine and Health Sciences for 5th- and 6th-grade students.
Saturday, April 4, 2009 (Morning and afternoon sessions). Demonstration topics include Human Health and Anatomy; Grossology; Tobacco Awareness; Science Projects; Health and Exercise; and Medical Instruments 101.
